Drinking water shortage – a reality
The increasing population, rapid urbanization, and growing scarcity of water is the grim reality. The estimated per capita availability of water by 2025 will be 1,341 Cu.m and it may further fall to 1,140 Cu.m by 2050, according to a report by the Ministry of Water Resources, India as of 30 Dec 2017. In other words, water is a rapidly depleting resource. In addition, most of the groundwater is contaminated with harmful minerals and salts. The most current purification methods do not free the water of pathogens, making water unhealthy for consumption.
The need of the hour is solutions that go beyond the conventional methods to source and purify water for communities across urban and rural India.
